Interior Design
Your space makes a first impression. Let's make it a lasting one.
Before anyone reads your name on the door or shakes your hand, they've already begun forming an impression. The layout, the light, the materials, and the feeling of the room all help tell your story. For business owners and developers across San Luis Obispo County and the Central Coast, Honeycomb Home Design brings its thoughtful, design-led approach to commercial spaces, balancing a strong visual identity with the practical needs of your business.
We're a boutique studio based in Arroyo Grande, working with clients in Pismo Beach, San Luis Obispo, Paso Robles, Atascadero, Santa Barbara, and throughout the Central Coast. Each commercial space is shaped around the business it serves, with careful attention to how people use it, how it reflects your brand, and how it will perform over time. Our approach is personal rather than one-size-fits-all, and we stay involved through the details that bring the design together.
What's Included
Space Planning and Programming Good design starts with understanding how your business actually runs. Before making aesthetic decisions, we learn how your team works, how clients or customers move through the space, what could work more efficiently, and what a better layout would make possible. The floor plans we develop from that conversation are designed to look right on paper and make the space easier to use every day.
Concept Development and Brand Alignment Your space should feel like an extension of your brand, not a generic office or a dated retail environment. We develop a cohesive design concept that translates who you are into something tangible: palette, materiality, furniture direction, the quality of light, the overall feeling of the room. If your brand is warm and hospitality-driven, the space should feel that way. If it's precise and professional, every detail should reflect that. We make sure the concept holds together and that every element earns its place.
FF&E Selection and Specification Commercial sourcing requires a different eye than residential work. Materials need to hold up under daily use. Furniture needs to scale correctly and meet commercial durability standards. Lighting needs to do real work, not just look good in a rendering. We source and specify furniture, fixtures, and equipment suited to your environment, your timeline, and your budget, and we document everything in a clear FF&E schedule ready for procurement.
Finish Selections Flooring, wall treatments, ceilings, lighting, and hardware all contribute to the look and long-term performance of a commercial space. We help you weigh durability, maintenance, and aesthetics together, choosing finishes that look beautiful and are suited to everyday use. These decisions have a lasting impact, and we guide them with that in mind.
Contractor and Vendor Coordination We stay involved from design through construction, reviewing plans and shop drawings, answering contractor questions, attending key site visits, and helping resolve decisions as they arise. Consistent communication between the design and build teams helps keep the project aligned and moving forward, while protecting the intent behind the design.
Why clients on the Central Coast work with us
We run a small studio by design, so the principal designer stays involved from the first conversation through final installation. You work directly with the person who understands your business, your goals, and the details that matter to you, creating continuity as the project moves forward.
Clients appreciate our clear, practical communication. We'll let you know when a selection needs another look, when the budget may need to shift, or when a decision could create challenges later. We work to address questions early and keep you informed as the project develops, so you can make decisions with confidence.
We also know the Central Coast and have built relationships with local vendors, fabricators, and contractors over years of work in the region. That experience helps us connect clients with the right people and support a smoother, more consistent project from start to finish.
Frequently Asked Questions

Absolutely! While we're based on the Central Coast, our work takes us well beyond the region. We currently have projects in La Quinta and Palm Springs, San Francisco, Napa, Tennessee, and beyond. We're happy to work with clients wherever their projects take us, and we'd love to hear what you have in mind.

The considerations are layered differently. ADA compliance, occupancy requirements, commercial-grade specifications, code review, brand alignment, contractor coordination at scale: all of it becomes part of the process. The pacing is different, the documentation requirements are different, and the decisions tend to carry more operational and financial weight. Our process is built to handle all of that without losing the quality and care we bring to residential projects.
-
Design fees are billed at $200 per hour. We give you a realistic hour estimate at the start so you know what to expect. Furnishings and materials are procured at retail. We align on budget before anything is purchased, and nothing expands without your knowledge.
-
Yes, and we do it regularly. We position ourselves as a clear, communicative partner to whoever's on the build side, and we work to make those relationships productive. If you haven't selected a contractor yet, we can point you toward builders we've worked with successfully on the Central Coast.
-
As early as possible. The best commercial projects involve design before construction documents are finalized or a contractor is under contract. Getting the layout and concept right early means fewer changes in the field, better outcomes, and a finished space that genuinely reflects what it was meant to be. If your project is already underway, reach out anyway. We'll be honest about what we can contribute at this stage.
